WSPP Inter-Library Loan Policy
Please contact the WSPP Librarian with any questions on these inter-library loan policies.
The Following memo was signed by Dr. Rusch and sent to WSPP students in April 2009 and is current policy pertaining to the WSPP librarian obtaining articles, reports and dissertations for students. – Thank you for your cooperation.
The following memo is to clarify the article and book request policies of the WSPP library and the inter-library loan, ILL, policies of WSPP.
Here are the basics:
- Students must do their own literature searches
- The WSPP Librarian can assist you if you are having problems with a literature search, but she will not do them for you.
- If you need the librarian’s help in finding materials, please be prepared to show her what you have already done to obtain them.
- Full-text articles are available through PsycARTICLES
- When you request an article that is in a journal at a local (i.e., Milwaukee and suburbs) library, you will need to go there an make a copy of it
- WSPP students have access to the Marquette Library
- You can request up to 7 articles at a time from PsycINFO, per week
- It can take 1 – 4 weeks to get an article. Plan ahead
- WSPP’s books are cataloged in WISCAT
- WSPP students are responsible for the costs of any inter-library loans, they will be notified of the charge before the ILL is processed
It is the responsibility of all WSPP students to do their own literature and book searches.
The WSPP Librarian will help you with how to search or assist you with finding keywords to search with.
The Librarian is on location Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1:30 – 6:30 to assist you.
WSPP provides access to PsycINFO which gives you the citations for articles; please look at the abstracts of articles before requesting them. Make sure you limit your searches to the English language, in most cases.
WSPP also provides access to a FULL-TEXT article database: PsycARTICLES which gives you access to APA published articles. Many EBSCO databases offer FULL-TEXT articles; through Badgerlink.
When you send the WSPP Librarian ILL requests through PsycINFO, she will see if they are available at a local library such as Marquette, UW-Milwaukee or the Medical College. She will then let you know which journal is at which library so you can go there and get the articles you need.
WSPP cannot repeatedly ask for articles from the same journal, this is a violation of copyright law.
The Librarian will accept up to 7 article requests from PsycINFO at a time per week from a student.
If you want more you will have to keep track of them and request them at another date. You can cut and paste them into notepad or word as you find the articles you want, then you can keep track of other ones you can request later.
When the article you requested is not available locally the WSPP Librarian will try to source if for you. This is many times done at no cost to you.
When a cost will be involved she will let you know what it is before she proceeds. It can take anywhere from one to four weeks to get an interlibrary loan. Plan ahead of time, everyone can not get their articles at once.
