Finding Books

The purpose of these pages is to help WSPP students and Faculty to perform research in an easy manner. Please contact the Librarian with any questions.Finding Books in the WSPP Library:

WSPP uses the shared on-line catalog WISCAT for its book records.

Helpful Hints

You must always be sure you are searching the WSPP library when looking for books in our collection.

Make sure the word "MY Library" appears in the citation you are looking at, if you scroll down to far in the results screen you will start to see the books in other people’s collections.

STEP 1: Connect to WISCAT

STEP 2: You will be brought to the screen below, Select Begin

At the next screen, you will need to make sure you are searching in the WSPP Library.

STEP 3: Use the pull down menu for the field Scoping In: select WSPP Library

Searching for Books

Now you can begin searching. Pick how you want to search for the book. Author, Title, Subject or All Headings.

This example is a subject search, all other searches follow the same principle. Ask the librarian for specifics.

STEP 4: Enter a subject in the first empty box

STEP 5: Use the pull down menu next to the word in: select Subject(you can select other fields for other searches)

STEP 6: Select the Search button (its hidden in the image below, but its there believe me)

A results screen will now appearHelpful Hints:Only records with Locations: My Library are books in the WSPP collection.

If you scroll down past the results for the WSPP library you will start to see books in other people’s collections.The number in the () are the total number of libraries in WISCAT that own the book and that number will vary with each book.

Note the date of the book in case you are looking for a specific edition.

Make sure you use the Modify Search, New Search, or Start Over links, when you want to do another search other wise you will not be brought back to a search screen with the WSPP library as the default search library.

You need the call# to locate the book at WSPP

STEP 7: Once you have found the title of the book you want, click on its title in blue lettering.

A pop-up window with the book’s details will appear.

STEP 8: Scroll down to the bottom of the screen to find the Call # in a yellow box,

STEP 9: Write down the call# (RC 533 H653, for example), you will need this to find the book in the WSPP library, note this system can not tell you if the book is checked out. You can e-mail the librarian to see if the books you want are in the library.

STEP 10: to look at the other books in the results page, get rid of the book specific page and scroll through the rest of the results, rinse and repeat the steps to find the call # of other books

STEP 11: Make sure you use the Modify Search, New Search, or Start Over links, when you want to do another search other wise you will not be brought back to a search screen with the WSPP library as the default search library.
