Why Support WSPP—Invest in Tomorrow's Mental Health Leaders

Learn more how your financial support helps bridge Wisconsin's mental health care gap

Your donation today supports scholarships and expands clinical services that prepare future psychologists to serve individuals and communities from all backgrounds, especially those with limited access to care.

An expansive view of clouds at sunset

Our vision is to prepare future practitioners for an increasingly diverse world so that they can positively impact their communities.

Despite rising demand for mental health services, 40 of Wisconsin’s 70 counties face a shortage of professionals, with many lacking a single practicing psychologist.

This forces individuals to travel long distances for care, leading to delays and worsening conditions. It also strains primary care providers, who are left to manage complex conditions without specialized training.

WSPP is Wisconsin’s sole institution offering the Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D) degree, graduating 12 clinical psychologists annually—more than any other program in the state, helping to address the provider shortage.

Our Mentorship Model & Focus on Clinical Care

Our tight-knit community of students, faculty, and staff nurtures a vibrant learning environment. WSPP uses a holistic training model that balances theoretical learning with real-world clinical experience —deeply rooted in mentorship that propels students to learn and develop.

Clinical experience is gained through WSPP’s on-site training clinic. Here, graduate students working towards completion of their degree provide a full range of services to adults, children, families and couples. Graduates are supervised by licensed psychologists on our faculty. All services are offered to the community on a sliding fee-scale to ensure accessibility.

WSPP Fundraising Priorities

We invite you to consider a donation to our institution. Tuition supports the school’s operating costs, and we have virtually no marketing budget, so WSPP relies on the community’s generosity.

As we look to the future, philanthropy is critically needed for:
Scholarship
Awards:
Cultivating a new generation of providers
Over the past five years, WSPP has provided nearly $1 million in scholarships to psychologists in training. At the same time, the public health need continues to outpace the growth of providers in the field. Philanthropy today will fund two new scholarships that propel students from Northern Wisconsin and students of color to meet the local demand for mental health services.

Your contribution, in any amount, provides vital assistance to aspiring Clinical Psychologists, enabling them to pursue higher education. It also plays a critical role in improving access to mental health care, reducing travel burdens to receive care, and ultimately enhancing the overall well-being of Wisconsin’s communities.
The WSPP Training Clinic:
Expanding critical services to those in need
The Training Clinic is vital to our holistic training model and a critical community resource, with a growing waiting list for services. The school subsidizes the clinic and runs on a yearly deficit. With your generosity, we can help even more people in the community seeking mental health care and work toward a more sustainable operating structure.

In addition to individual community members, our clinic also provides community services to local LGBTQ groups, the MKE Ballet, and more.

Currently, graduate students providing services are not compensated for their time. In the future, we hope to compensate students for their professional services and reduce the total cost of their education. You can help us make this dream a reality.

What are WSPP’s funding priorities?

Tuition helps cover the school’s operating costs, but it doesn’t meet the full scope of how WSPP delivers our impact to students and communities.

To grow and sustain our vision, WSPP relies on the generosity of donors like you.

Philanthropic support fuels scholarships, expands access to clinical care, and strengthensthe training of future mental health professionals.

Do you have a scholarship program?

Yes. Over the past five years, WSPP has awarded nearly $1 million in scholarships to support psychologists in training. Yet, the public health need continues to outpace the number of professionals entering the field.

With your support, we are launching two new scholarships—targeting students from Northern Wisconsin and students who are underserved in healthcare—who are uniquely positioned to meet local mental health needs.

Your gift enables aspiring Clinical Psychologists to pursue graduate education and helps increase access to care across underserved communities in Wisconsin and beyond.

What is WSPP’s Psychology Training Center?

The WSPP Psychology Training Center is central to our hands-on training model and a vital resource for the local community. Demand for services continues to grow, and the clinic is currently subsidized in part by the school.

Your support helps us serve more individual patients and builds a foundation for long-term sustainability. Students offer services to individuals, families, children, and couples—while also supporting organizations like the Milwaukee Ballet and local LGBTQ+ groups.

In the future, we hope to compensate student clinicians and reduce their educational debt with your help.

What is WSPP’s vision for the future?

Our vision is to prepare future practitioners for an increasingly multi-faceted and complex world—so they can make meaningful, lasting contributions to the communities they serve.

Why is it so critical to develop more mental health professionals?

Forty of Wisconsin’s 70 counties have a shortage of mental health professionals—and many don’t have a single practicing psychologist. This results in long travel times for care, delays in treatment, and added pressure on primary care providers.

WSPP is the only institution in Wisconsin offering the Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree. We graduate 12 clinical psychologists each year—more than any other program in the state—and play a vital role in closing the care gap.

What is WSPP’s training model?

WSPP’s holistic training approach blends academic rigor with real-world clinical experience and mentorship. Students receive hands-on training in our on-site clinic, serving adults, children, families, and couples.

All care is supervised by licensed psychologists on our faculty and is offered on a sliding fee scale to ensure affordability for the community and patients served.
